Philippa Dawson is a specialist in international trade promotion, economic development and community engagement with extensive experience working across cultures, leading and developing diverse teams both onshore and offshore. Philippa has over 20 years experience incorporating general and financial management and corporate governance. Her core strength is partnering to create client-centric solutions in strategic and operational leadership, stakeholder and community engagement and project and change management.
As an independent Consultant/Advisor Philippa draws on her previous experience as the Chief Operating Officer at Austrade where she was responsible for managing the organisation’s finance, human resources, I.T. property, security and legal teams across a global organisation with 1200 staff located in 81 overseas offices and 38 offices across Australia. Prior to this Philippa was the Head of Trade at Austrade where she established client-focused trade promotion strategies and managed the client support operations through the Austrade Direct network. She has established a number of Asia-focused Business Engagement Grants Program for member-based business organisations and developed new client-focused programs such as Landing Pads for start-ups in Shanghai, San Francisco, Tel Aviv, Berlin and Singapore. She has led a number of key Government Taskforces including as Head of Overseas Post Security and Event Manager for APEC 2007.
While responsible for Community Engagement and Public Service Reform at Prime Minister and Cabinet, Philippa was involved in designing and delivering a whole-of-government community engagement framework. She also led a Zero-based budget Review and the APSC Capability Review Internal Assessment of Prime Minister and Cabinet. And as a Specialist Adviser with the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) developed a communications strategy for the European House of Major Event Security – a joint UN/EU project to facilitate common standards and operational procedures for security planning across Europe.
Philippa’s qualifications include a Master of Marketing and Communication, University of Canberra, Graduate Diplomas in Public Policy from the University of Tasmania and Foreign Affairs and Trade, from Monash University, a Bachelor of Economics (Japanese), from the University of Tasmania. Innovation for Economic Development, from Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education, a Graduate and Member, of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and holds a Certificate IV in Project Management from the Australian Institute of Management.
