![]() Tom Parker is a China specialist with a focus on business engagement and effective collaboration between Australia and China. Tom incorporates a life-long passion for China into his professional life and began studying Chinese (Mandarin) at the age of 12 and is fluent in the language. Tom's long term engagement with China has resulted in an impressive Chinese network and the ability to enable business outcomes
Recently, Tom has assisted multinational clients in China to ensure a new international Shanghai-based team ‘hit the ground running' and to develop the skills of local Chinese staff when working with Westerners, he has also provided recruitment and language assessment skills for IVG, the operators of Australian Pavilion at the Shanghai 2010 World Expo. Recent clients include: AMP Capital, the Australian Football League, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, First Data, Intrepid, Lonely Planet, Morgan Stanley, the Melbourne Football Club, and NICTA. In 2007, Tom was also a keynote speaker at the CPA China Summit. Tom has held roles in The Asialink Centre (Melbourne), Austrade (Beijing), and as writer and reporter for the ABC in both China and Australia for Radio National's Asia Pacific Program. Tom has managed programs and facilitated business and government partnerships in China for the City of Melbourne including the development of the China In-Country Professional Development Program.Tom has completed a Graduate Diploma of International Business Studies (in Mandarin) at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, a Graduate Diploma in Education and Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies) with Honours from Melbourne University and the Australian National University.
Tom has also studied in the Advanced Chinese Language Program at the East China Normal University in Shanghai.Tom is currently an Honorary Associate at the China Research Centre at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and a Board member on the Australia-China Business Council (Victoria).
