Joseph Crumlin
Joseph Crumlin is a cross-cultural consultant focussing on the intercultural challenges connected to effective trade interaction with Japan and Korea. Joseph has extensive experience in industrial marketing and manufacturing operations across the Asia-Pacific region. Throughout Joseph's lengthy commercial career he has accumulated considerable experience in creating and facilitating effective business development and technical training programs to Japanese, Korean, Chinese and English speaking stakeholders and employees.
Joseph has been closely connected to Japan culturally, professionally and linguistically for almost twenty five years. His intercultural career started as a technical language instructor in the industrial heart of Western Japan where, for three years, he carried out specialist language training for senior executives and engineering staff of large Japanese corporations preparing for foreign assignments. His clients included such organisations as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Nippon Steel and Nissan Motor Corp. He has held various divisional industrial marketing management positions where he was solely responsible for business growth in the Japanese, Taiwanese and Korean markets. Among the North East Asian key clients he has managed are; Toyota Motor Corp, Hosokawa Machinery Corp, Asahi Cylinders, TRW, General Motors, China Steel, Tong Yang Cement and Posco Steel Corp. More recently, Joseph spent ten months in Saitama Prefecture, Japan consulting in the operational restructure of a large fluid control equipment manufacturing acquisition.
Joseph holds academic credentials which include an M.A. in Applied Japanese for Business from the University of Sydney, a B. Business in Marketing and Japanese from the University of Technology, Sydney, as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language and engineering trade qualifications. He speaks, reads and writes Japanese fluently at a technical and commercial level and is an enthusiastic student of Mandarin, Korean and Farsi languages.
